About Our Homes
All homes at Hampton Oaks will be built to a BUILT GREEN® “GOLD” Standard. BUILT GREEN® homes are third party certified, energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes. This label adds value to your home by promoting the use of resource-efficient, environmentally friendly, construction
practices and products.
Quite often, when people buy a new home, they don’t think about or ask about the operating costs (utility bills) associated with home ownership. With a BUILT GREEN® home you can be assured that there are features in your home that will reduce your operating costs. Energy efficiency is built into every BUILT GREEN® home.
Water efficiency is also included in every BUILT GREEN® home. Features will vary from water-saving toilets to low-flow showers and faucets to xeriscaping and more.
Electrical efficiency is addressed in this program with options for CFL and LED lighting to timers and motion sensors to whole home automation. The BUILT GREEN® program accepts that there are many ways to build sustainably, so the possible variations are nearly endless. A home built in the
BUILT GREEN® program should save a minimum of 10% in annual utility bills compared to a code-built home (your performance will vary).
One of the benefits of an energy efficient home is the comfort. Energy efficient homes have less temperature variation from room to room. They are more airtight, reducing the drafts many people notice while sitting in a room. In addition to offering superior energy efficiency, substantial sound reduction from exterior sources is another benefit. BUILT GREEN® homes are also well ventilated, ensuring that odors don’t linger in your home. These are all comforts that have to be experienced to be appreciated.
Healthy Home Healthy Environment
Your BUILT GREEN® home will produce less Green House Gas emissions, and Terry Johal Developments will take steps to minimize the waste produced from
your home. These are healthier for the environment. The BUILT GREEN® program has many options to improve the indoor air quality in your home. Ventilation will remove some of the unwanted VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), but a better solution is to not have VOCs in the first place. Low or Zero VOC paints, low or formaldehyde free building materials and third party certified floor coverings all contribute to a healthier indoor environment. These materials, combined with a well ventilated home, provide an environment that is less stressful on your respiratory and immune systems.
One of the most overlooked aspects of a sustainably built home is durability. We want to ensure that we aren’t building homes that need substantial renovation every
five years. While renovating is costly, there is also an adverse effect on the environment in terms of waste generated and energy consumed in the process.
BUILT GREEN® homes can feature a wide variety of durable features. These can range from engineered lumber that resists warping, to extremely durable exterior features such as 30 year shingles.
Enhanced and Retained Value
Let’s face it; at some point in the future, you will want to resell your home. A BUILT GREEN® certified home will help you here as well. As mentioned before, it’s always good to sell a home that requires little or no renovation. Energy efficiency is always in fashion and your potential buyers will appreciate the utility savings your home offers. your home will compare favorably with other homes you are competing against.
